Bulldogs Win Thriller Over Rival Central State
WILBERFORCE, OH - History was made tonight as the final buzzer sounded and the Bulldogs got the victory over the Central State Marauders. For the first time, Wilberforce has won the storied matchup for consecutive years, after defeating the Marauders 91-65 in 2022.
The Bulldogs struggled to contain the Marauders in the first half of the game and trailed by ten (10) leading into halftime. However, Coach Mitchell's locker room inspiration lit a fire in the team and they came out swinging in the second half. The team's increased aggressiveness on both ends of the ball led to a decrease in shot attempts from the opposing team and an increase in free throw attempts for the Bulldogs in the second half. After twenty (20) minutes of back and forth, the Marauders made a last-minute three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime. That didn't stop the Bulldogs though as they kept the same momentum and ended the game with a W in the win column.
Junior, Josiah Mobley, led the way with a career-high 27 points off of 53% shooting, and an added 5 rebounds and 2 steals. The Bulldog's leading scorer for the season, Cali Davis put on a clinic in every aspect of the game; he finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Junior, Kyle Cardenas, had a strong performance from behind the arc scoring 19 points, with 12 of them coming from beyond the three-point line.
The Bulldogs hope to keep the winning energy going as they participate in the Central Bank Jim Reid Classic this weekend in Georgetown, KY.
