Bulldog Baseball Looking Forward to Year Two
Wilberforce, OH - Wilberforce University will enter its 2nd year under Head Coach Roosevelt Barnes. Last year’s campaign was historic as it was the first time in over 80 years that the school had a baseball program. It was also the first time that an MLB team had been so vocal in establishing a partnership with an HBCU to combat the disparities of equity and inclusion in the game of baseball across the country. The partnership with the Cincinnati Reds takes a wholistic approach with the Cincinnati Reds supporting the university’s baseball program both on and off the field with training facilities, uniforms paid internships and professional development assistance.
This year promises to be a continuation of the energy and excitement that the inaugural season tendered. The program doubled in size with the addition of a JV team and adding to its coaching staff. The Bulldogs picked up a few transfer students to improve on the team’s maturity and leadership. Several key returning players and new commers will bring an exciting brand of baseball to the nation’s oldest privately held HBCU and Midwest collegiate baseball.
